TITLE: Housekeeping Manager

REPORTS TO: Executive Housekeeper EFFECTIVE:05.14.24 APPROVAL: AW

PRIMARY PURPOSE

To oversee the operation of the housekeeping department to ensure quality service

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the general direction of the Director of Guest Services and Resort Operations and the direct supervision of the Executive Housekeeper, and within established departmental policies and procedures the incumbent performs the following functions:

Primary Functions

Assist in the hiring, training and evaluating employees in the housekeeping department to include housekeepers, housemen, inspectors, laundry personnel and public area cleaners

Assist in weekly scheduling of department

Direct the daily activities of the housekeeping department, ensuring that rooms will be clean properly and efficiently and that laundry is running efficiently, and public spaces are being maintained

Assist in maintenance programs for guest rooms and public areas

Inspect guest rooms, linen closets and public spaces to ensure that resort standards are maintained at all times

Meet regularly with Executive Housekeeper

Assist in the scheduling and execution of special cleaning programs, i.e.: deep cleaning; both guest rooms and public spaces. This can include window washing, carpet shampooing and vent cleaning

Originate work orders for needed repairs to guest rooms or public spaces. Send to engineering and review with Executive Housekeeper

Ensure that cleaning agents are properly diluted and used according to instructions. Assists in the maintenance of MSDS book and makes employees aware of its location and purpose

Ensure that all employees adhere to resort policies and report and deviations to the Executive Housekeeper

Inspect vacant ready rooms daily for Quality Assurance

Assumes duties in full of Executive Housekeeper in their absence

Communicate effectively with other departments to ensure efficient turnover of rooms

Secondary Functions

Responsible for complying with and enforcing all established RiverWalk Resort and all departmental policies and procedures.

Ensures confidentiality of all RiverWalk matters. Maintains good communications; establishes and maintains positive working relationships with employees and the public.

Performs similar or related duties as requested by the Executive Housekeeper (for example: bed bug training).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Individuals must possess these knowledge skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the primary functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation using some other combination of skills and abilities and to possess the necessary physical requirements without the aid of mechanical devices to safely perform the primary functions of the job.

1. Physical requirements include ability to bend body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist; bend the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine; extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction; stand for sustained periods of time; move about on foot to accomplish tasks; use arms to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward; use upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects; raise objects from a lower to a higher position or move objects horizontally from position to position.

2. The ability to professionally communicate or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word.

3. The ability to receive detailed information through oral communication (i.e. in a normal office setting)

4. The ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and / or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and / or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

5. Subject to atmospheric conditions with one or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin: fumes, odors, dust, mist, gases, or poor ventilation, including air and / or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.

6. Requires the ability to plan and perform a wide variety of duties requiring general knowledge of policies and procedures. Requires considerable judgement to work independently toward general results, devising methods, modifying or adapting standard procedures to meet different conditions, making decisions based on precedent and policy.

7. A visual acuity sufficient to meet minimum standard for use with those whose work deals largely with computer terminals, extensive reading, and visual inspection.

8. The ability to receive training from General Manager and Director of Guest Services and Resort Operations on non-routine duties which may not follow standard practices and procedures. The ability to determine actions to be taken, handling all but unusual cases.

WORK SCHEDULE: Generally 40 hours per week. Schedule will vary due to occupancy levels and needs of the resort

May be required to work additional shifts or holidays as warranted by emergencies or resort staffing needs.

High school diploma or equivalent.

At least one (1) years’ experience in Housekeeping in a resort environment. Some prior supervisory experience preferred
