POSITION SUMMARY: This is a 30 hour per week position at the Spencer Branch of the Marathon County Public Library. The Spencer Branch Coordinator supervises the operations, personnel, and programs of the Spencer Branch Library. The successful candidate will provide support to the public by promoting lifelong learning, fostering access to ideas and information, and creating opportunities to connect. The work is performed under the direction of the Lead Branch Coordinator and the Library Services Manager. Hours can include days, evenings, and weekends. Additional hours to attend meetings, workshops or to fill in for other staff may be required. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree with two years of experience in a public library or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities. Possession of a valid Wisconsin driver’s license required. Is the lead worker over branch library staff and volunteers; evaluates and schedules staff; assists in training, instruction, and orientation; plans, assigns and reviews work activities. Ensures that the branch is properly staffed during service hours. Acts as the communication liaison between branch staff and library administration. Keeps staff informed and meets regularly to address new ideas, needs, and suggestions in a thoughtful and respectful manner. Schedules special programs for the branch including Story Time, Summer Reading, and Adult programming. Assists customers in finding library materials in a variety of formats including books, periodicals, audio/visual, e-books and computer-based; instructs customers in the use of reference sources, automated systems, and the Internet; assists customers with readers advisory. Assists in developing and implementing services, policies, and procedures. Carries out policies, procedures, and practices of the Marathon County Public Library. Serves as an effective liaison between the library and the community. Seeks opportunities to meet and interact with local community leaders. Plans and promotes programs for the branch that are of interest to the community and respond to local needs. Oversees branch physical plan in terms of safety, security, cleanliness, use, and proper maintenance. Reports any problems in these areas to the proper authority. Resolves customer service concerns and complaints. Balances daily receipts from fines, fees, and copier charges; maintains and reconciles cash account. Performs other duties such as: checking materials in and out, ordering and maintaining office supplies, processing mail and e-mail, filling requests, accepting van deliveries and interlibrary loans; calls patrons regarding missing or damaged materials. Collects and maintains statistical records necessary to evaluate accomplishment of service goals and objectives, including monthly statistics and timecards. Attends workshops and meetings; read book reviews, Library Journals and professional literature and periodicals to maintain current professional knowledge and abilities. Develops and maintains positive relationships with staff and customers. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Ability to perform basic level of data analysis including the ability to review, classify, categorize, prioritize and/or reference data, statutes, and guidelines. Ability to lead, mentor, and train others. Ability to advise and provide interpretation regarding the application of policies, procedures, and standards to specific situations. Ability to utilize a variety of advisory data and information such as monthly and statistical reports, computer and equipment manuals, board minutes, timecards, professional literature, policy manual, newsletters, and routine correspondence. Ability to communicate orally and in writing with supervisor and branch staff and volunteers, reference and technical staff, maintenance workers, municipal officials, schoolteachers and administrators, local newspapers, library customers and the public. Ability and willingness to serve customers and staff with empathy, genuineness, eagerness, energy, and enthusiasm. Ability to show acceptance and understanding by being open, courteous, and considerate. Ability to relate to everyone as a possible source for learning. Ability to support leadership and management. Ability to work as a productive and positive team member. Ability to communicate freely, openly, honestly, and accurately. Ability to contribute helpful energy and creative ideas. Skill in multi-tasking and handling high volumes of work. Ability to follow established procedures in an orderly and logical manner and adhere to prescribed routines. COMPENSATION: Starting hourly rate: $24.65 per hour.This part-time position is eligible for benefits that are prorated based on 30/hours per week.
