Job Overview

Southern California-based commercial construction & development company Howard CDM is seeking a reliable and team-oriented Estimating Coordinator to join our growing firm. This is a great opportunity for either someone with a couple years of experience supporting Estimating/Bidding who wants to grow their knowledgebase and establish a long-term career, or someone looking to break into the industry and be trained-up by experts in the Estimating/Bidding world.

The Estimating Coordinator’s responsibilities include but are not limited to assisting the Project and Estimating Teams with overflow work such as document and data management, internet research tasks, and providing support to various estimating and construction project management requests as they develop.

Estimating Coordination

• Provide administrative support to the estimating department
• Research bid opportunities and maintain update the bid list
• Maintain / Create good business relationships with vendors and subcontractors, maintaining the subcontractor database
• Maintain Job Walk, Bid Calendar, and Project Tracker
• Secure bid documents / plans
• Create and maintain proposal folders with all updates / addenda to plans and specifications
• Read, interpret, and understand contract drawings and specifications, as well as review of project manuals and bid package information
• Solicitation of sub-trade pricing and MBE, WMBE, DVBE participation both in person and on the phone
• Assist in the preparation of project estimates, requests for proposals, and budgets

• Prepare bid form and associated document which must accompany the bid form(s)
• Finalize and distribute formal post-bid reports
• Provide technical assistance to Estimators including analysis of drawings / specification and preparing accurate material quantity takeoffs
• Assist with project specific and general prequalification questionnaires
• Assist in the initial planning and scheduling of construction projects through preparation of schedules including major work items

• Keep the Senior Estimator and project team informed about project status and issues that may impact the project
• Other tasks assigned by the Senior Estimator as needed.

Qualifications

• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) Required
• Valid California Driver’s License Required
• 1 years of admin work experience Required
  • Experience working in Bid Coordination or Estimating a PLUS
• Knowledge of BidMail and/or Bluebeam a PLUS
• Strong grasp of phone etiquette, customer service or sales experience a plus
• Excellent time management, communication, and organization skills

How We Determine What We Pay
Howard CDM determines pay for positions using local, national, and industry-specific survey data. We evaluate external equity and the cost of labor/prevailing wage index in the relative marketplace for jobs directly comparable to jobs within our company. Our posted salary range is based on national data and may be refined for a candidate's region/town/cost of living.

For new hires, we strive to make competitive offers allowing the new employee room for future growth. Salaries will be based on the applicant’s location, level of experience, education, and specialized knowledge and skills. Additionally, we consider the external market rate, the amount we have budgeted internally, and internal equity within the company for the same position. An employee/candidate with a stronger skill set will receive higher pay.
