About Our School

Opened in 2022, Vertex Partnership Academies is a virtues-based, International Baccalaureate (IB) public charter high school located in the Soundview section of the Bronx. We seek to develop virtuous high school graduates who have acquired the habits, knowledge, and sense of personal agency necessary to lead self-determined, purposeful lives of American and global citizenship. Our vision is to develop internationally-minded, tenacious learners guided by the four cardinal virtues of Courage, Justice, Temperance, and Wisdom. 

Vertex Partnership Academies requires the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme for freshmen and sophomores and is proud to be an International Baccalaureate World School authorized to offer each of the Diploma and Careers Programmes in the junior and senior years. 

With this prestigious authorization, Vertex Partnership Academies is one of literally a handful of high schools worldwide that is an IB For All School offering three IB programs, meaning that 100% of Vertex students are required to pursue the IB Middle Years program in ninth and tenth grade, and then choose between the IB Diploma or IB Careers pathway for their 11th and 12th-grade years.

Primary Function & Position Overview:

The Director of Student Support will assist the Principal by serving as leader of student culture and discipline. The Director of Student Support leads the implementation of Vertex’s Code of Conduct as well as a positive school culture. The Director of Student Support will be charged with creating a culture of high expectations, openness to feedback, and an intentional focus on using data to drive culture decisions. The Director of Student Support will work with the school Leadership team to ensure all Vertex students can succeed in an IB environment while pursuing the Middle Years Programme and the Diploma or Careers program. 

Academic and Strategic Planning

  • 12 month position
  • Support teacher development based on the outcomes of observation and coaching meetings. 
  • Support the implementation of the academic support program (RTI)
  • Support the development and implementation of FBAs and BIPs as needed

Professional Development

  • Co-plan, co-lead, observe, and share feedback on professional development aligned to school priorities
  • Lead professional development for non-instructional staff aligned to school culture priorities
  • Meet consistently with members of the Student Support Team

Coaching and Classroom Feedback

  • Coach and supervise Student Support Team through classroom observations and weekly check-in meetings
  • Work with Principal to to effectively lead Student Support Team, discipline, and school systems through weekly coaching meetings, PD, coaching feedback, for disciplinary protocols
  • Observe teachers and share observation feedback weekly
  • Share observation trends in weekly Leadership Team meetings

School Culture

  • Align on a vision for school culture with leadership team reflecting Vertex’s cardinal virtues
  • Own school culture through clear discipline systems that are followed through upon consistently and fairly such as reflection protocols, tracking of merits/demerits, detention or more serious behavioral infractions
  • Identify patterns in school culture through intentional data analysis and when appropriate, proposing specific research-based scholar supports root in response to data
  • Lead attendance initiatives with Director of Operations and guide staff on attendance supports
  • Oversee the implementation of the schools’ reward system, train teachers on consistent implementation, and monitoring systems to ensure students are recognized for demonstrating our cardinal virtues
  • Utilize current systems, such as Dean's List to record and manage student disciple data

Staff Evaluation

  • Supervise and evaluate all members of the Student Support Team including Deans and Counselors
  • Observe and evaluate instructional staff and non-instructional staff, ongoing feedback aligned to positive culture

Other

  • Serve as a member of the school’s Leadership Team and Instructional Leadership team
  • Lead and respond to student, family, and staff concerns as needed
  • Collaborate closely with the Director of Operations, Director of Special Education and Leadership Team to ensure student success
  • Supervise students’ individual Personal Projects and service requirements

Qualifications 

  • A Bachelor’s degree, Masters degree preferred. 
  • Fluency in a second language (Spanish) preferred 
  • Minimum of three years experience in a school leadership position
  • A flexible attitude, commitment to lifelong learning, and a sense of humor

  • A commitment to viewpoint diversity, open inquiry, and experiential-based pedagogy

This role is a full-time, in-person opportunity. As an employee, you are eligible for a benefits package, inclusive of paid time off, paid holidays and a retirement plan. The salary range for this position is $104,000-$123,000 which will be based on the candidate’s years of full-time experience and educational background.
