NASAA is Hiring a Qualitative Research Manager Near Washington, DC

AboutThe National Assembly of State Arts agencies (NASAA) is recruiting a full-time Qualitative Research Manager. This position plays an important role in building a national evidence base about state arts agencies and facilitating the use of research across multiple NASAA program and service areas. The candidate chosen for this position will:
  • document state government programs, policies and partnerships that foster the arts;
  • analyze information to identify themes and trends;
  • communicate information to multiple audiences.
This position is an opportunity for someone with exceptional research and writing abilities and interest in policy, government and the arts. NASAA is a nonpartisan nonprofit that offers a professional and friendly working atmosphere in a small-office setting located in downtown Washington, D.C., near Metro.
This position is eligible for full-time remote work in the United States.
ResponsibilitiesThis position entails a creative variety of duties, including:
  • conducting applied qualitative research for knowledge services (including interviews, focus groups, document analysis, surveys, literature reviews and mining websites and newsletters)
  • sharing information on topics such as innovative arts programs, creative economies, cross-sector collaborations, arts grant making, etc.
  • tracking state legislation relevant to state arts agencies
  • securing and organizing policy documents (such as grant guidelines, strategic plans and enabling statutes)
  • writing and editing articles and reports
  • presenting and assisting with the design and delivery of learning events
  • answering information requests from colleagues, government agencies and the public
  • developing and maintaining databases relevant to state arts agency programs
  • packaging and promoting research products
  • coordinating NASAA research communications
  • contributing to team projects
QualificationsThis position requires both research and communications expertise. Qualifications include:
  • 5 years of full-time work experience in a professional setting
  • demonstrated knowledge of qualitative research methods
  • demonstrated qualitative analysis and information synthesis abilities
  • exceptional writing and editing abilities, including the ability to distill complex information
  • clear verbal communication and oral presentation skills
  • keen attention to detail, accuracy and organization
  • ability to establish a rapport of trust with research informants
  • a positive service attitude
  • ability to respond quickly to requests from staff and members
Desired Skills
  • Experience working with clients and delivering high-quality research services
  • Experience conducting research in a policy environment
  • Familiarity with cultural policy research and government arts agencies
  • Understanding of current and emerging technologies to assist with qualitative research
  • Familiarity and experience with Microsoft Office and Tableau
  • Graphic design abilities, document layout skills and experience with Adobe products
Salary and Benefits
The research manager is a full-time, salaried (exempt) position including benefits. The starting salary range for this position can be offered at $60K-$65K.
