Cape Henry Collegiate is Hiring a Middle School History Teacher Near Virginia Beach, VA
Under direction of the Head of Middle School, the Middle School History teacher will be responsible for planning and implementing lessons which cover both the content and skills of the middle school history curriculum. Qualified candidates will be able to create and provide an environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of adolescents to ensure success for each student as well as monitor and evaluate academic outcomes. All Cape Henry Collegiate teachers are expected to communicate and interact with students, parents, staff and community in a manner that represents the mission and core values of the school. Position Duties (include, but are not limited to)
Plan and implement lessons that meet the content and skills related goals and objectives of the History curriculum.
Collaborate with colleagues around best practices in the middle school classroom.
Develop, select and modify instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students
Create a classroom environment that provides for student involvement in the learning process and enables each student to achieve learning objectives
Prepare for classes assigned, and show written evidence of preparation upon request of Division Head
Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students
Maintain a safe, positive, and fair classroom environment for all students
Collaborate with the history department and the grade level team to support both curricular goals as well as the social, emotional, and academic well-being of students
Be available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms
Serve as a grade level advisor and work with the grade level team to ensure consistency around advisory programming
Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required
Perform other duties as required
The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
Minimum of 3 years teaching experience within the content area
Ability to plan and implement effective lessons to engage middle school students
Effective use of formative and summative evaluation to meet the needs of each student.
Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education
Ability to infuse technology into curriculum
Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, students, parents and community
Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university. Candidates with a Master's Degree and/or state teaching license will be given preferential treatment.
