Cross Roads House is Hiring a Chief Operating Officer Near Portsmouth, NH

Reporting to the Executive Director (ED), the Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Cross Roads House (CRH) will be in charge of day-to-day shelter operations, finance and human resources, information technology, and physical facilities. The COO will be directly responsible for all HR matters for the entire organization. The COO will work in partnership with the ED on strategic planning, the development of the annual operating plan and budget, and the establishment and oversight of operational and financial controls, policies, and procedures.

Direct reports will include the Shelter Director, Finance Director, Facilities Manager, and Kitchen Coordinator. The Program Director and Director of Development and Communication will have a dotted line to the COO, but these positions will remain direct reports to the ED.

More than any role, the COO position is an implementer and collaborator whose day-to-day hands-on approach complements the ED’s vision and allows the ED to network in the community, create collaborations and support funding.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day internal CRH operations.
  • Collaborate with the Finance Director to improve financial reporting, auditing, and accounting and internal control Manage all human resources matters for the organization, including employee recruiting and hiring, employee relations, compensation, benefits, training, and discipline and terminations.
  • Conduct assessments of and develop and implement CRH policies and procedures.
  • Oversee all IT matters, including IT infrastructure, hardware, software, systems, and controls.
  • Supervise and collaborate with the Facilities Manager to oversee facilities planning and management.
  • Supervise and collaborate with the Kitchen Coordinator to oversee kitchen operations.
  • Work with the ED to develop the annual operational budget in line with CRH vision and mission.
  • Serve as back up to the ED, Finance Director, and Program Director in the event any of these three becomes temporarily unavailable.
  • Oversee all vendor relationships.
  • Serve as part of the on-call team for overnight and weekend shelter management coverage.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, master’s degree preferred, or equivalent business experience.
  • Minimum of five years of organizational operations experience in a senior leadership role, preferably in a nonprofit/social service environment.
  • Extensive experience in financial, accounting and IT systems.
  • Experience in HR oversight.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Experience managing diverse departments and staff.
  • Strong technical, writing, and communication skills.
  • Self-starter and out-ot-the-box thinker that understands our clientele and is looking to improve client services.
