As a Senior Manager of MLOps (Governance, Monitoring and Deploy), you will lead teams focused on building, improving and optimizing DataRobot’s industry leading MLOps product. In this role you’ll be driving the development of our scalable, secure MLOps infrastructure that supports the end-to-end lifecycle of ML deployments. You’ll partner closely with product managers, tech leads and other senior managers across teams to help shape the roadmap and ensure alignment across our organisation. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of what it takes to run a robust production system for machine learning operations including expert understanding of cloud platforms and Kubernetes. They should be familiar with ML and Generative AI concepts as well as data pipelines and orchestration tools. We are looking for a strong technical leader that has first-hand experience with projects in a similar space. As a technical leader, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop innovative, data-driven solutions and seamlessly switch between strategic planning and tactical execution.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of backend, frontend and devops engineers specializing in MLOps (Governance, Monitoring and Deploy)
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative team environment, upholding our Engineering Operating Principles.
  • Drive team performance, professional development, and skills advancement.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews, set goals, and provide constructive feedback.
  • Provide technical direction on MLOps system architecture, model deployment options, and scaling solutions.
  • Oversee the design and implementation of new features that meet requirements for scalability, performance, cost and reliability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners, including product and design, to prioritize and plan the MLOps team’s work.
  • Lead the team’s project execution, ensuring alignment with business goals and timely delivery.
  • Ensure quality of deliverables, upholding standards for code quality, model performance, and system reliability.
  • Own and maintain the services and platforms developed and managed by the team.
  • Accountable for system availability, setting up monitoring and alerting for key model metrics, and ensuring robust runbooks are in place.
  • Act as the subject matter expert on MLOps infrastructure, helping address tactical issues as they arise.
  • Work closely with product managers, data scientists, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver MLOps solutions that meet business needs.
  • Continuously seek opportunities to improve MLOps system performance, reduce cost or increase efficiency.
  • Stay updated with the latest trends and technologies in machine learning, MLOps, and data science tools.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:


  • Production experience with operating cloud-based infrastructure on either AWS, Azure, GCP or Openshift (preferably more than one of those)
  • Expert understanding of Kubernetes concepts at at least a CKAD level
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and Go
  • Proven experience leading and mentoring a team of cross-functional software engineers.
  • Track record of delivering complex software projects on time with effective team management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience building cross-functional relationships and fostering consensus.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Machine Learning, or a related field or equivalent professional experience
  • 7 years of experience in software engineering or MLOps
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership or management role.


Nice to Have:


  • Familiarity with ML development and frameworks and tools such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Scikit-Learn


Compensation Statement

The U.S. annual compensation range for this full-time position is between $167,500 and $264,000 USD/year. This range represents the annual base salary. Actual offers may be higher or lower than this range based on various factors, including (but not limited to) the candidate’s work location, job-related skills, experience, and education.
