tandem professorship (W1 LBesO) in the field of ‘Simulation Bioprocess Technology’ for half of a full professorship is to be filled as soon as possible as part of the federal-state programme for UAS personnel in the Department of Applied Logistics and Polymer Sciences. This professorship is jointly funded with the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Mathematics (ITWM).
The position comprises 50 % of a W1 professorship at the university and 50 % of a position at the Fraunhofer ITWM and serves to acquire the required three years of ofessional experience outside the university, which is a prerequisite for a full-time professorship at a university of applied sciences in accordance with

- 56 HochSchG RLP takes place in a private-law ployment relationship, remunerated with 50 % of the basic salary of salary group W1 (state salary scale W to the Rhineland-Palatinate State Salary Act) and is limited to a maximum of 3 years. Applications from persons who have completed three years of professional experience outside of higher education cannot be considered for this professorship format.
We are looking for a person with a university degree in engineering or natural sciences or applied mathematics, as well as a special aptitude for scientific work, which is usually proven by a qualified doctorate and appropriate pedagogical aptitude, which must be proven separately.
The person we are looking for should be qualified to represent the field of bioprocess technology and its simulation in scientific and pharmaceutical teaching and applied research. We expect extensive theoretical knowledge in the following areas
- applied mathematics, especially in the areas of modelling and numerics
- physics (e.g. fluid mechanics, thermodynamics) and physical chemistry (e.g. transport processes, diffusion)
- Flow simulation (CFD)
- the use of programming languages and relevant mathematical software packages, e.g. Matlab, R etc.
The following would be also of interest:
- First experiences with acquisitons in third party fundings
- Experiences in pharma research and development, including Biopharmaceuticals
- Knowledge in the field of chemometrics and/or methods of machine learning
- Knowledge in the field of Bioprocess technology, especially chromatography
We have a supervision concept that requires a high level of teacher presence at the university location. German language skills (at least level C1) and English language skills are required.

The-Fraunhofer-Institute for Industrial Mathematics (ITWM) is involved in the appointment procedure through at least one member of the appointment committee. The Fraunhofer ITWM independently negotiates the employment contract regulations for half of the position at the cooperation partner with the applicants. The subject areas are to be represented both in teaching and in applied research. We expect very good didactical skills as well as the willingness to participate in the exchange with our international partner universities and to offer courses in English. In addition, we expect committed participation in teaching basic subjects and possibly giving lectures in related subject areas.
We expect the applicant to integrate themselves well into the existing team both professionally and personally, to get involved in the academic self-administration of our university and to enjoy imparting knowledge from their own professional experience to the students.
The university has a large number of collaborations with universities and research institutions such as Max Planck Institutes and Fraunhofer Institutes as well as companies. Intensifying and expanding these collaborations is highly desired.
Active participation in the university’s research activities is desired. In this context, we strive to increase third-party funding and the number of cooperative doctorates.
We advocate a supervision concept that requires a high level of presence of the teaching staff at the university campus.
German language skills (at least level C1) and English language skills are required. Teaching language ist mainly German.
