The Institute of Technical Microbiology is an open and international institute.
Together with one technician, around twenty scientific staff members, and a changing group of students, we conduct research and teaching in the fields of sustainable biotechnology, bio-based resources, and microbial wastewater treatment.
We place particular importance on involving all team members in the various workflows and decision-making processes, and on fostering a collegial, respectful, and supportive working environment.
YOUR TASKS
- Development of a genetic system for a thermofilic exoelectrogenic microorganism
- Implementation of automated laboratory evolution in bioelectrochemical systems
- Genetic engineering to heterologously express metabolic pathways
- Heterologous expression of synthetic proteins to enhance the biosynthesis of desired products
- Integration of engineered strains into (customized) bioelectrochemical reactors and assessment of biomass yield and catalytic activity
YOUR PROFILE
Requirements
- Completed scientific university studies, in particular in subject*s as Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Bitotechnology
Required Knowledge And Personal Skills
- Very strong expertise in molecular bio. and microbial genetic engineering, e.g. Plasmid construction, cloning, transformation, and genomic integration
- Excellent communication skills and fluency in German (spoken and written) (C1) and English (B2)
- Demonstrated experience in working with microbial expression systems; knowledge of synthetic biology tools is highly desirable
- Solid background in reactor design, microbial physiology and metabolic pathway design, ideally in the context of applied biotechnology
- Experience with fundamentals in the biochemistry of exoelectrogens and their application in reactor systems is a strong asset
