Job Posting for Research Scientist (Optics, Laser spectroscopy, Humidity) NMC at A*STAR RESEARCH ENTITIES
Job Description:
The National Metrology Center, part of the A*STAR, is seeking a highly motivated and talented Research Scientist with expertise in laser spectroscopy, optical sensing system and optical measurement system. The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary research team in Optical and Dimensional Metrology (ODM) cluster working on the development and deployment of tunable diode laser hygrometers for aerospace application. This position involves contributing to the innovation and enhancement of high-precision hygrometers, which are crucial for environmental monitoring and field measurements.
Key Responsibilities:
Depending on experience, the responsibilities will include:
Designing and building optical systems for wavelength-modulated laser spectroscopy for accurate humidity measurement.
Conducting experiments to measure water vapor concentrations using absorption spectroscopy techniques, including calibration and validation of the instrument.
Developing and optimizing electronic systems for laser modulation, signal detection, and data acquisition.
Performing laboratory and field testing to validate instrument performance under varying environmental conditions, including pressure, temperature, and humidity.
Conducting literature review on the latest advancements in laser-based hygrometry and applying these insights to ongoing projects.
Maintaining compliance with safety regulations and quality standards throughout the development process.
Prepare research proposals in optics related areas.
Job Requirements:
Ph.D. in Physics, Optical Sensing, Optical Measurement or a related field, with a focus on laser-based instrumentation or laser spectroscopy.
0-2 years of experience preferred.
Experience with tunable diode lasers, wavelength-modulated spectroscopy, or atmospheric sensing instrumentation is highly desirable.
Signal processing techniques (e.g., 2F detection) and optical system design for absorption spectroscopy are highly desirable.
Experience in optical design or quantum measurement systems is a plus.
Familiarity with data analysis and programming (Python, MATLAB, Labview) to process large datasets.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex optical and electronic setups.
Experience with airborne instrumentation or environmental sensing is a plus.
A proactive attitude, with a willingness to learn and contribute to a dynamic research environment.
Ability to plan and execute experiments independently, while collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
Strong communication skills for presenting research results and coordinating with team members.
If your compensation planning software is too rigid to deploy winning incentive strategies, it’s time to find an adaptable solution.
