The Financial Controller role is in one of our emergency response centers Singapore. The Singapore office staff cooperates with other locations in the Netherlands, Houston and South Africa.

The role as Financial Controller is divided over different areas of attention. This position will include transaction-based activities, business and project controls. The SMIT Salvage finance department works as a global finance team. The role will work in close collaboration with the other offices to create synergy and one way-of-working. The Financial Controller reviews and challenges project and financial reporting and procurement.

The successful candidate will have experience in managing a team, working in a project environment and track record of implementing processes efficiencies. Having worked with shared services is a pre. Currently, the Singapore based Financial Controller has four direct reports; two in the office and two project controllers in the field.

Your responsibilities as Financial Controller is

• Developing, implementing and maintaining the departmental and Business Unit policies, processes and procedures in line with the company’s guidelines and applicable standards.
• Providing of leadership in functional reporting to improve business and project control.
• Take ownership for tenders in the region regarding all finance related topics (tax, treasury, cost accounting, compliance).
• Being able to communicate with internal and external advisors and define the impact to the sr. management team.
• Compiling periodically financial statements including narratives for financial performance of the entity to the management team in The Netherlands.
• Ensuring cash flow and liquidity position are at the agreed level.
• Ensuring the preparation and execution of payment orders.
• Ensuring that the tax policies are executed in compliance with the company’s guidelines and local requirements.
• Ensuring the quality of output of the administration processes delegated to the financial shared service centers (Abu Dhabi and The Netherlands).
• Supporting SMIT management and affiliated stakeholders in the growth ambitions of the company.

Your qualities
You can make your mark as Financial Controller if you have:

• Minimum higher professional education (bachelor) in Business Administration or Finance, and specialized financial accounting education, preferably CPA.
• Minimum of 7 years relevant experience in an internationally operating environment.
• Good knowledge of accounting and internal controls.
• Communicate and understand the different communication style required internal (local, business unit and corporate).
• Relationship management with external stakeholders.
• Affinity with IT and optimizing financial processes.
• Part of the global finance team of SMIT Salvage.
• To show leadership and commitment to ensure a healthy and safe place of work.
