The role of the job coach is to train and support students with special needs to find suitable employment that matches their learning style and maintain employability. The job coach has to work closely with students, their families and teachers, the employers and external agencies for a successful school to work transition.
Job Scope
Plan vocational goals
To work with the teachers in formulating vocational training plans for students to match their skills, strengths, preferences and interest.
Perform job matching and provide career counselling for students
Provide Coaching
Prepare the students with employability skills (both hard and soft skills) necessary for work
Provide vocational training for students with sensory impairment
Conduct practical job coaching and briefing for students before, during and after work exposure
Observe student's work performance at training and on-the-job to identify the relevant strengths and gaps for employment
Develop coaching and training plans to close employability gaps
Collaboration with Employers and Key Stakeholders
Assess the work sites and task suitability of jobs for students' employment
Identify and negotiate workplace supports for students
Engage companies to support and sustain students' work performance
Being the point of contact between students, their families and teachers, the employers and external agencies
Document updates on training/coaching progress to different stakeholders
Attend meetings, briefings and networking sessions organized by government agencies such as SG Enable, MOE SEB, etc.
Candidate Requirements
Recognised diploma (minimum), a Diploma in Special Education will be advantageous
Preferred with at least 2 years working with individuals with disabilities and special needs
Prior experience in areas of vocational training, assessment or placement is highly preferred
Ability to communicate effectively with students with barriers to learning, including those who may communicate using AAC or sign language
Ability to communicate effectively with staff, students and their families, and other external employers and stakeholders using a variety of media
Able to travel to offsite work locations, i.e. employer work sites
Passion to help individuals with disabilities and special needs
