A safety coordinator's job is to ensure the safety of employees in a workplace. They create and maintain safety standards, respond to emergencies, and train employees on safety procedures.
Responsibilities
Create safety standards: Establish safety standards based on legal requirements
Develop safety plans: Create and implement plans to reduce accidents and injuries
Train employees: Educate employees on safety procedures and compliance requirements
Monitor workplace conditions: Check on work activities and ensure compliance with safety standards
Respond to emergencies: Coordinate responses to accidents and emergencies, and provide initial aid
Investigate incidents: Collect data and report findings on accidents and incidents
Conduct safety inspections: Participate in safety walks and inspections to identify risks
Set up safety equipment: Ensure that safety equipment, such as fire extinguishers and first aid kits, are available and functional
Develop policies: Create policies to promote occupational health and safety (OSH) awareness
Skills Strong communication skills, Analytical mind, Understanding of how machinery and equipment operate, and Critical thinking skills.
Safety coordinators often work in industrial settings, such as construction sites, factories, and workshops
Requirements:-
Education
Degree in a relevant discipline
Certificate in Safety Officer
Advanced Certificate in Workplace Safety & Health
WSH Skills and knowledge equivalent to a Certificate in WSH
Work experience
At least three years of relevant safety experience
Relevant work experience as an Assistant WSHO, WSH Coordinator, HSE Manager, or similar
