Job Posting for Laboratory Manager, NGRIP Innovation Hub at NUS Enterprise
The Minimum Viable Product (MVP) Studio at NUS Enterprise supports the National GRIP program, startups and research teams in building and testing their prototypes. We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Laboratory Manager to oversee the daily operations of laboratory within the NGRIP Innovation Hub. The Laboratory Manager will be responsible for ensuring smooth lab operations, implementing best practices, and maintaining compliance with relevant regulatory standards. This role is crucial in enabling startups and researchers to work safely, efficiently, and productively in well-functioning lab environment.
Lab Operations & Safety
Manage daily lab operations and shared spaces to ensure a clean, safe, and efficient working environment.
Develop and enforce lab best practices, ensure that the laboratory complies with all relevant laws, regulations, and ethical guidelines.
Develop and maintain emergency response plans with the Safety Manager
Collaborate with the Safety Manager to monitor safety compliance and ensure lab users adhere to protocols, including the functionality and accessibility of emergency equipment (e.g., eyewash stations, fire extinguishers)
Manage lab access control, ensuring only trained and authorised users can enter designated areas
Onboard new lab users with orientation on lab policies and available resources
Oversee visitor and contractor access in accordance with security and safety protocols
Equipment Management
Ensure proper functioning, servicing, and calibration of all lab equipment.
Coordinate with vendors for repairs and order replacement as needed
Conduct equipment training and support users in utilizing lab resources effectively.
Serve as the point of contact for lab-related inquiries and troubleshooting
Inventory & Resource Management
Track and manage lab inventory, including lab supplies, materials, and consumables to ensure timely procurement and availability
Monitor lab expenses and ensure proper allocation and use of resources
Maintain accurate records of lab usage, inventory, and procurement activities.
Build and maintain relationships with vendors, service providers, and suppliers
Monitor contracts and service agreements to ensure timely and cost-effective support
Stakeholder & Continuous Improvement
Provide regular updates to relevant stakeholders on lab operations, resource status, and other key information
Keep lab users informed of policy changes, equipment availability, and evolving operational needs
Identify and implement areas for operational improvement, including training and workflow optimisation
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific field (e.g., chemistry, biology, engineering)
Minimum 8 years of relevant experience, including at least 5 years in laboratory management (preferably across chemical and biological labs)
Strong knowledge of lab operations, equipment management, and relevant software tools
Deep understanding of safety protocols and ability to ensure compliance with applicable regulations
Familiarity with quality systems and industry standards is a plus
Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders
