Assistant Manager - Research

[Contract Position]


This is a contract position that can be converted to a permanent role, subject to performance and divisional requirements.


Job Description:

The incumbent will support the Head of Department in managing the Research and ensuring the successful delivery of research projects, including data collection, analysis, report writing, and preparing presentations for key stakeholders. In addition, the role will contribute to organisation-wide initiatives related to strategic planning and impact evaluation. The role also requires close collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that research outputs align with organisational objectives and stakeholder needs.


Core responsibilities:


Impact assessment

  • Monitor and review the operationalisation of impact metrics and framework alignment
  • Maintain the impact assessment framework to support prioritisation and enhancement of initiatives
  • Facilitate impact clinics and discussions/workshops with divisions and other stakeholders


Research and programme evaluation studies

  • Manage the execution and reporting of research and evaluation studies, including conducting literature reviews, designing research methodologies, developing research instruments, conducting data collection/analysis, and ensuring that all research activities adhere to ethical standards, guiding team members where necessary
  • Manage the preparation of research reports and presentations for high-level management discussions and reporting purposes
  • Review and verify reports for accuracy and alignment with organisational strategic objectives and support the dissemination of findings in collaboration with internal divisions
  • Support the curation, organisation, and dissemination of relevant statistics
  • Maintain the internal centralised research repository
  • Guide team members in designing research methodologies, develop research instruments and ensure that all research activities adhere to ethical standards


Strategic review, workplan exercises and landscape scans

  • Ensure accurate and comprehensive key performance indicators to track progress towards strategic goals
  • Assistance in Workplan exercises, including divisional workplan reviews and liaising with relevant stakeholders
  • Support the execution of the organisation-wide strategic review exercise, including the development of presentations and review of reports for high-level stakeholders
  • Oversee environmental scanning and the preparation of reports on the organisation’s key strategic thrusts


Cross-division collaboration

  • Coordinate with other departments or represent the unit in middle management assignments


Manage team and maintain stakeholder relations

  • Manage assigned staff in executing deliverables and foster a positive work environment.
  • Oversee management of Research Subcommittee
  • Communicate research findings to internal and external stakeholders effectively, tailoring communication to diverse audiences


Additional responsibilities:

  • Data management - Maintain and organise research databases, ensuring data accuracy, security, and accessibility for ongoing and future research projects.
  • Perform any other duties as directed and assigned.


Requirements:

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences (Social Work, Psychology, Behavioural Sciences / Statistics/ Sociology).
  • Minimum 4 years of relevant professional experience in Research, Impact Evaluation, Theory of Change, or the social service sector is preferred.
  • Possesses leadership skills with the ability to guide and mentor teammates towards collective success and efficiency.
  • Data literacy, a firm grasp of descriptive and inferential data concepts, familiarity with at least one statistical software program, such as SPSS or Tableau, and data manipulation in spreadsheet software, such as Excel or Power BI.
  • Knowledge of Python/R will be an added advantage.
  • Strong interest in community issues and a good knowledge of trends in the social service sector and issues affecting the community.
  • Have strong communication and analytical skills, with the ability to write in a clear and engaging manner.
  • Able to excel in a fast-paced and dynamic organisational setting.
  • Excellent organisation and problem-solving skills with the ability to respond effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Meticulous, detail-oriented, responsible and able to work independently and with teams and is enthusiastic about continuous learning and personal development.
  • Good written and oral communication skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Able to participate in SINDA-wide events, as required.
