Faculty Members - Teaching-Track (Information Systems Technology and Design)

Job Description

The Information Systems Technology and Design (ISTD) pillar seeks applications to fill several teaching track faculty positions. Depending on teaching experience, an appointment could be at the level of Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, or Principal Lecturer.

Teaching is a demanding but rewarding job, requiring both teaching skills and technical knowledge. Faculty under the teaching track are primarily responsible for teaching and managing computing courses at the undergraduate level well. Thus, there is a larger teaching load than tenure-track faculty. Other duties include service to SUTD and the community. Evaluation is primarily based on the quality of teaching.

A successful candidate will have a passion for teaching and want to nurture the next generation of Computer Science graduates. The candidate will be able to teach the introductory programming classes and have the technical background to teach at least two of the core subjects offered in the ISTD pillar at the undergraduate level.

The following will be an advantage but is not strictly required: (1) The ability to teach elective courses, or (2) continuing education and training courses, or (3) possessing some knowledge of pedagogy. Qualified applicants will be invited for an on-site interview which will include a short micro-teaching segment to demonstrate their teaching abilities and passion for teaching. In the case when applicants are based overseas and not able to attend the on-site interview, interviews can also be conducted online. However, such applicants may also be requested to submit a video recording of the microteaching segment. The specific requirements of such a video will be communicated separately.

Applicants must possess a PhD in Computer Science or a related field. Prior experience in teaching will be an advantage. Candidates with Bachelor or Master’s degree with at least 10 years of teaching experience in Computer Science will also be considered. Initial appointment will be for up to three years with extension based on performance.
