Phlebotomist

1 Phlebotomists to join our team of Treatment Room clinicians

Tuesday - 8.30am - 16.30pm

Wednesday - 8.30am - 16.30

Thursday 8.30am - 13.00pm

Friday 8.30am - 16.30pm

Total of 25.5 hours per week

Phlebotomist responsibilities include:

• Identifying patients via ID, medical record or other means
• Drawing blood using the appropriate equipment and in line with current best practice
• Labelling samples correctly and send them for testing
• Run blood clinics
• Identify patients accurately and ensure the bloods to be taken are correctly identified on the laboratory IT system
• Determine the right venipuncture method based on patient age, health etc.
• Reassure patients and help them relax
• Find veins that are suitable for puncture
• Draw blood using sterilized needles, vials and other equipment
• Ensure optimal quality and quantity of samples
• Fill the correct bottles, label samples correctly and send them for testing
• Answer patient questions and provide useful information
• Keep accurate records on fluid specimens and tests
• Adhere to all relevant health and safety standards while working
• Help with testing of urine samples as needed

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Phlebotomist or Phlebotomy Technician
• Experience with effective puncture techniques
• Understanding of proper patient identification methods
• Knowledge of protocols, directives and best practice regarding drawing blood, handling fluid samples and use of relevant medical equipment and material
• Using computers to enter information
• Excellent patient communication skills
• Attention to detail
