Reporting directly to the Head of Special Projectsthe role is to assist in developing new products and improving existing products for Greenbank Technology & Proline Engineering. The Special Projects department is the leading technical authority for the business and is responsible for ensuring the 2 CPM Packaging brands are at the forefront of technology in the markets they serve.
The Development Engineer’s role will include:
Carrying out initial feasibility studies
Pre-engineering works
Using Autodesk Inventor as the primary CAD package to
Generate conceptual models for review
Relevant information to carry out cost analysis
Using digital prototyping, including CFD analysis and 3D printing
Carrying out product testing
Cost & time controls of any R&D projects led by you
Managing projects led by you, including the use of resources from the main drawing office
It will be necessary for you to visit customers & suppliers in this role. These sites may involve international travel. This position will require you to travel & work both alone and as part of a small team. Depending on the size of the project you may be asked to lead the small team of people which may well be employed on a contract basis.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Carry out designs to specification
Compile detailed raw cost breakdowns
Produce clear, accurate & concise technical documentation
Carry out pre-engineering works using specialist software, for example, Autodesk CFD
Production of conceptual models/drawings
Production of manufacturing drawings
Carry out feasibility studies
Produce clear, accurate & concise reports of all R&D projects led by yourself
Build & utilise the library of standard products
Ensure all products are “Design for Manufacture”
Ensure all products utilise the “best available technology”
Contribute to the continuous development of Greenbank & Proline products
Ensure that Health and Safety standards are being met
Adhere to al company policies and procedures
EXPERIENCE The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years’ previous experience in a similar role in addition the successful candidate will have the following skills
Good Communication Skills
Attention to detail
“Outside of the Box” thinker
Qualified by experience, particularly in the area of thermal and fluid process equipment
Good knowledge of gas systems/equipment
Used to working on large scale sites with continuous processes.
Ability to coordinate and manage 3rd party resources, e.g. drawing office resources and/or sub-contract resources
ESSENTIAL SKILLSETS
Minimum HNC/D qualification in Engineering
Competent in AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor & a CFD software package, ideally Autodesk CFD
Competent in Microsoft Office programs
Thermal and/or Fluid processing knowledge
Used to generating process flow diagrams and process & instrumentation diagrams
Ability to work on multiple projects
DESIRABLE SKILLSETS
Engineering degree with a process bias
Good understanding of Electrical Engineering to be able to generate specification to handover to the Electrical department
Experience working with SAPB1 or any other ERP system
Experience in FMCG type industries
Experience working with large scale production machinery
