Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon (with interest in Upper Limb)

We are seeking to appoint a full time, substantive Consultant with an interest in Upper Limb surgery (balance of which can be negotiated but must include hand and wrist) to work within the Trauma and Orthopaedic department.

We welcome applications from candidates across the full spectrum of experience, from those who have recently completed training to those who have well-established careers. Subspeciality experience in Upper Limb surgery is required as well as experience in general trauma.

THE POST

We are seeking to appoint a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon with a sub-speciality interest in upper limb, specifically hand and wrist. The Consultant must be fellowship trained and comfortable dealing with all aspects of orthopaedics and trauma. We expect this person to help

deliver and network the orthopaedic service within Lancashire. The successful applicant will complement the team of established consultants and wider MDT within the directorate. The post is subject to the Trust’s terms and conditions of service. The post will have sessions at both

Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital and Burnley General Teaching Hospital. Consultants participate in the trauma rota which is currently 1 in 8. Due to the trauma workload the Trust operates a system of a first and second on-call Consultant for Orthopaedic trauma. Fracture clinics are undertaken at Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital.

Services are provided from our two main sites, the Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital and Burnley General Teaching Hospital. They are also provided from our community sites at Pendle Community Hospital, Accrington Health Centre, Clitheroe Community Hospital and Rossendale Health Centre.

The Emergency Department at Blackburn is the only ED for East Lancashire and is a Trauma Unit in the Lancashire Trauma Network working closely with the Trauma Centre at the Royal Preston Hospital. The ED is supported by Urgent Care Centres at Blackburn and Burnley and a Minor Injuries Unit at Accrington.
