Job Description
We are seeking a dynamic and highly organized Research Science Community Manager to serve as the primary liaison between researchers beta testing and using a bespoke data access tool and Reddit’s Product team. This role is essential in facilitating collaboration, ensuring smooth communication, and supporting the development of a data access tool for non-commercial research. The ideal candidate will be skilled in stakeholder management, academic research, and technical product engagement. This is a 6-month contractor role, at 15 hours per week, with an option to extend.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the main point of contact between beta testers and the Reddit Product team, ensuring clear and efficient communication.
- Provide frontline technical support, e.g. help onboard new researchers, debug SQL queries, understand and explain table schemas and how to retrieve desired data.
- Synthesize and communicate researcher pain points and recommendations to the Product Team in a way that is actionable and aligned with strategic goals.
- Advocate for the needs and concerns of researchers while balancing the objectives of the Product Team.
Qualifications & Experience
- 2 years of experience with research coordination, stakeholder relations, program management, or a related role.
- Proficiency with data research technologies such as SQL and BigQuery.
- Technical proficiency in SQL, including query optimizations.
- Customer account management experience; ie, creating or removing access to a data research tool for researchers.
- Experience working with academic researchers or volunteer-led organizations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate complex topics to varied, skeptical audiences.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency in documentation and collaboration tools (e.g., Confluence, JIRA, Slack, Google Workspace, or similar).
- Familiarity with Zendesk and Reddit.
- Ability to work independently while fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in trust and safety, content moderation, or platform integrity research.
- Code/scripting experience (Python, Javascript, Matlab, Jupyter notebooks, etc)
- Knowledge of legal and ethical frameworks related to online research and data governance.
- Prior experience in a technology company, research institution, or nonprofit sector.
In a typical day, you might take care of:
- Beta Tester Check-ins: Respond to inquiries from testers, provide support on processes, and accomplish follow-ups.
- Draft or Review Documentation: Work on technical documentation, onboarding resources, FAQs, and public communications.
- Host Office Hours: Communicate synchronously with testers to help debug queries, gather feedback, and resolve various issues.
- Respond to Support Requests: review communication channels including Zendesk queue, Discord, and Reddit, to resolve issues and gather suggestions for the product team. Troubleshoot technical issues from the researchers such as slow queries or script errors.
- Create / remove accounts for new or departing researchers.
- Cross-Functional Meetings: Meet with legal, product, and policy teams to review beta tester pain points and requests for future development.
