My client, a leading provider of consulting and clinical development services to the biopharmaceutical industry, is seeking a Director of Business Development to support their continued growth. This is a high-impact role, ideal for a strategic and relationship-driven sales professional who enjoys partnering with emerging and small biotech companies to bring new therapies to market.
The Opportunity:
The Director of Business Development will be responsible for driving new client acquisition and expanding existing accounts across a portfolio of consulting and clinical services. The focus is on building high-trust, long-term partnerships rather than transactional sales, offering tailored solutions that align with each client’s development strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
Business Development & Strategic Sales
- Identify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities with a strong focus on emerging and small biopharma companies requiring clinical development expertise.
- Manage the full sales cycle - from lead generation, proposal development, and RFP responses through bid defense and final contract negotiation.
- Maintain a strong understanding of the market landscape to position services competitively and strategically.
- Build and maintain a robust, high-quality sales pipeline, using a consultative and insight-driven approach to business development.
- Lead client meetings, presentations, and bid pursuits, engaging with senior stakeholders and decision-makers.
- Collaborate closely with internal operational and proposal teams to align service offerings with client needs and deliver winning solutions.
- Accurately track and manage all sales activities in Salesforce CRM.
Client Satisfaction & Relationship Management
- Ensure seamless transitions post-award by partnering with operational teams and maintaining proactive communication with clients.
- Serve as a trusted advisor, addressing client needs and fostering long-term satisfaction and loyalty.
- Represent the company with professionalism and integrity at every stage of the client journey.
Internal Collaboration & Strategic Contribution
- Partner with senior leadership to align sales activities with broader business objectives.
- Share market intelligence and client feedback to help shape internal service strategies and improvements.
- Contribute to business development process enhancements and support initiatives to strengthen client engagement.
Ideal Profile:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Life Sciences, Business, or a related field.
- 8-10 years of successful business development experience within the contract clinical research sector, ideally with consulting and clinical development services.
- Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets and developing strong client relationships.
- Deep understanding of the clinical research environment, particularly supporting early-stage and small biopharma clients.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong strategic thinking, organizational, and financial skills.
- Ability to develop and maintain trusted client relationships and identify new business opportunities.
- Excellent communication, networking, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency with Salesforce CRM and related business development tools.
Other Requirements:
- Willingness to travel up to 30-60%, depending on client needs and industry events.
