Company: POLITICO
POLITICO is seeking a talented, energetic journalist to cover sustainability out of our Brussels newsroom.
The European Green Deal introduced dozens of sustainability laws onto the EU rulebook, in areas including biodiversity, sustainable finance and corporate disclosure - but farmers’ protests, a more right-wing European Parliament and fears about defense, trade and industrial competitiveness have prompted a backlash. Now, many green measures are being challenged and watered down, providing lots of fodder for news.
This is a busy reporting role that would suit an enterprising, adventurous reporter. Your primary job will be to go out and talk to people in the EU institutions, industry and civil society, build a network of sources and break news.
Writing for both subscribers and POLITICO’s wider homepage audience, you will share your reporting in a daily newsletter and in sharply framed news stories that explain what’s at the heart of EU policy debates and why it matters.
Working in the Brussels newsroom you will be reporting on one of the world’s political centers at a time of historic change.
What You'll Do
- Break news on sustainability policy in areas including pollution, biodiversity, waste, water, corporate sustainability and green finance
- Jointly author a must-read morning newsletter for subscribers
- Deliver news stories and sharp longer reads
- Build a wide network of sources
- Collaborate with colleagues covering politics, climate, agriculture, trade and financial services among others
What You'll Need
- A track record of breaking news and producing high quality, impartial journalism
- Ability and willingness to build a wide network of sources
- Fluency in English, ability to write with clarity and flair
- A demonstrable interest in environmental and sustainability policy
- Attention to detail and willingness to dig into policy detail
- Other European languages a plus
