Community Living Counsellor - Job Coach

About the Opportunity

Job Coaches specialize in assisting individuals with disabilities to learn and accurately carry out job duties. They provide one on one training tailored to the needs of the employee while acting as a consultant to the employer and their staff. Job coaches help support individuals to become proficient and independent in their job duties.

As a Job Coach with the Employment Development Services you will work closely with other Job Coaches. Duties will include assisting applicants in successfully learning and maintaining their new job, thinking outside of the box, being creative with teaching techniques and fade out procedures. In this role you will also be responsible for ongoing administration regarding the applicant/employee, employer and the Employment Development Service.

Additionally you will be responsible for training of advocacy, disabilities awareness building, job adaptations, social support, problem solving, and the development of natural supports.

You will work closely with the team to provide meaningful and role-model Person-Centered Active Supports. Some of your duties can include:

  • Develop effective job coaching and employment plans
  • Communicate with supported individuals to understand their goals and ambitions
  • Assist supported individuals to discover and overcome their personal barriers and set goals
  • Assess the strengths of the supported individuals and assist them in using their strengths effectively
  • Provide coaching in effective job search techniques
  • Advise on workplace accommodations for people with disabilities
  • Monitor and evaluate progress of clients
  • Keep records and documentation and prepare appropriate reports
  • Ability to inspire and motivate supported individuals

Requirements:

  • Experience using social media (Facebook, Twitter, Indeed)
  • Working knowledge of MS Office and ability to learn new computer programs as necessary
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Class 5 driver’s license (permanent staff must be willing to obtain Class 4)
  • Access to reliable car
  • Travel within region
  • Comfortable navigating transit system
  • First Aid and CPR Certificate
  • Clear criminal record (paid by CLS)
  • Clean driver’s abstract

    Assets:

    • Prior paid or volunteer experience
    • Experience with ASL (or willingness to learn)
    • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training
    • Mandt System®
    • Previous leadership experience
    • Knowledge of Person Centered Active Supports
    • Ability to maneuver a wheel chair
    • High school diploma; post- secondary education in the areas of support worker training or life skills instruction

    About You

    Your experience in providing sound, consistent and caring support to adults with developmental disabilities coupled with your leadership and management skills will enable you to flourish in this role. You are motivated by enabling individuals in achieving greater success in certain areas of their lives by providing skills and opportunities to develop, participate in their community, take part in community activities, obtain volunteer or paid employment and learn tasks of daily living. You will also meet other unique support needs including personal care.

    Hours: Temporary Full Time, Job Coach (REC-529)

    Availability: Monday - Friday: 9am - 4pm (evenings and weekends may be required)

    Wage: Starting at $26.25 per hour

    Job Coach position for summer only

    • Start on June 1st, 2025
    • Ends on Aug 31st 2025
