ABOUT INUVIK COMMUNITY CORPORATION (ICC)
Under the Inuvialuit Final Agreement (IFA), each Inuvialuit community—Aklavik, Inuvik, Paulatuk, Sachs Harbour, Tuktoyaktuk, and Ulukhaktok—has a Community Corporation governed by six elected Directors and one elected Chair. These Community Corporations provide a direct link between local beneficiaries and the Inuvialuit Regional Corporation (IRC) and its subsidiaries, ensuring that community needs are met and voices are heard.
Inuvik, meaning “living place,” is the regional hub of the Inuvialuit Settlement Region and home to IRC’s main offices. Established in 1958 as the first planned community above the Arctic Circle, Inuvik serves as a key administrative, cultural, and economic center, connecting the region through the Dempster Highway. With a population of around 3,400, Inuvik remains a place where residents maintain strong family ties to surrounding settlements while continuing traditional activities on the land.
JOB SUMMARY
The Summer Student Coordinator will design and deliver programs that teach traditional Inuvialuit activities to youth, including organizing nature walks and cultural workshops. Working closely with the Brighter Futures Program Coordinator, the role ensures programs are safe, engaging, and age-appropriate while fostering cultural pride, land-based learning, and a connection to Inuvialuit traditions.
