Job Summary:
Paper Excellence is seeking an Indigenous Relations Intern/Co-op to join its team. The successful candidate will work remotely (20 hours per week) and will play a role in supporting the company's Indigenous Relations, government relations, forestry, public affairs, and corporate affairs efforts. Key Responsibilities:
- Support the development and tracking of Indigenous Relations strategies, including monitoring of policy implementation, MOU commitments, and regulatory changes;
- Assist in the preparation of memos, briefing notes, presentations, and other materials for internal and external audiences.
- Conduct research and analysis on emerging issues, trends, and best practices in the areas of Indigenous relations, forestry, and corporate affairs.
- Support the implementation of Indigenous engagement plans, and possibly participate in local meetings and events.
- Support the development of a Cultural Awareness training program at corporate and mill level.
- Assist with the development and administration of corporate social responsibility initiatives, including sustainability reporting and community engagement activities.
o This includes tracking engagement around the certification of our Progressive Aboriginal Relations (PAR) program
- Monitor news and media coverage related to the pulp and paper industry and Indigenous organizations and provide regular updates on relevant stories and trends.
- Contribute to the development of communication materials, such as press releases, talking points, and social media content, to support the company's corporate affairs and Indigenous Relations objectives.
- Conduct benchmarking and best practices research to identify opportunities for the company to improve its Indigenous relations and corporate affairs efforts.
- Provide support for internal and external communications, including drafting and editing content for the company's website, social media channels, and other platforms such as PE People.
- Assist with the organization and execution of company-sponsored events, such as open houses and mill tours, to showcase the company's operations and products.
- Take meeting notes and minutes and prepare summaries for internal and external use.
- Provide support to the Indigenous Relations team in other areas as needed.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a relevant degree program (preferably 3rd year or 4th year students), such as Indigenous Relations, political science, public policy, forestry, business, or communications.
- Strong interest in Indigenous Relations, government relations, public affairs, and corporate affairs.
- Excellent research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information and communicate it effectively.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Potential ability to travel to local events and meetings
