Job Posting for Pulp Machine Superintendent at Paper Excellence
Howe Sound Pulp & Paper is looking for a Pulp Machine Superintendent to join our organization.
Located on the western side of spectacular coastal British Columbia, Howe Sound Pulp and Paper is one of the oldest operating mills in the province. Commissioned in 1909, Howe Sound Pulp and Paper plays a key role in the history of the Sunshine Coast. Generations of families who were first attracted to the area by mill jobs, stayed and have made the coast their home.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Fibre Line Manager, the Pulp Machine Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the daily operation of the pulp machine, focusing on safety, production, reliability and quality. The Pulp Machine Superintendent will also support team members and assist in their training and development. To be successful in this role, you must be a self-starter with strong interpersonal capabilities coupled with highly effective management skills.
Responsibilities
Serve as a role model and lead our safety polices and procedures
Optimize the pulp machine to maximize production while continually increasing availability and reducing off quality production. Review production and operating reports and address operational, manufacturing, and/or maintenance challenges to prevent operational delays and downtime.
Provide input to capital projects from inception through completion.
Build relationships with team members to help develop and operate at their full potential.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical/technical experience in the Pulp & Paper industry.
A minimum 5 years’ experience in a supervisory role that would include some combination of strategic planning, resource allocation, manpower modeling, leadership techniques, and production methods.
Must be a strong leader with demonstrated skills in interpersonal skills, communication and high sense of urgency and attention to detail.
Strong analytical, project management and problem-solving skills.
Supervisory experience working in a unionized environment preferred
Solid interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively coach, teach, and manage people.
Excellent communication and presentation skills (both written and verbal).
Excellent troubleshooting skills (technical and other).
Ability to plan, organize, execute and works to specific goals and objectives
Ability to change and adapt to new situations
Key Competencies including: candor/integrity, influencing & building partnerships, teamwork, accountability, problem solving.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary $135,000 - $150,000 per annum (Actual salary offered will be commensurate with education, experience and internal parity).
