Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The responsibilities and duties for this Patient Accounting Specialist, but are not limited to, the following items:
- Responsible for working with patients in satisfaction of debt owned due to non-covered services, deductibles, coinsurance, and copays. Answer phones/sending statements/setting up payment plans. Answers patient billing questions through telephone and email communication.
- Acts as point person for billing and payment questions between customer service and accounting.
- Sending past due accounts to collection agencies & posting agency collections to patient accounts.
- Initiates processing of late charges, re-bills, insurance discounts, refunds, audit discrepancies, etc.
- Responsible for all inquiries regarding aged patient accounts receivable balance by patients whether orally or in writing.
- Researches and solves payment discrepancies.
- Processes credit card payments and credits.
- Perform all aspects of the duties of an accounts receivable specialist using billing software programs.
- Ensure that all A/R notes are accurate, clear, and concise.
- Process incoming mail concerning billing and invoicing and respond to those inquiries in a timely manner
Specifications Required
Two-year degree preferred in Accounting or Business management, or equivalent work experience may be substituted.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in AR/patient collections.
- Ability to decipher and understand claim denial reasons as shown on EOBs.
- In depth knowledge of medical insurance billing.
- Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office and billing software.
- Self-starter highly motivated with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent customer service skills - able to function as a polite cooperative team member with a positive attitude- friendly and engaging personality.
- Ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Has clear and articulate communication with customers via phone, email, and text.
