Job Description

Job Title: Direct Care Attendant (DCA)

Pay Group: 1099 Contract

Pay: $15/hr

Tasks: Transportation required for client

Hours: Part time hours. Transporting Client required

Reports To: TXHML/HCS Attendant Supervisor

SUMMARY:

Please be aware that this position is responsible for supporting and assisting individuals with various physical, intellectual, or developmental disabilities in their daily activities.

The Direct Care Attendant (DCA) provides assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs) through hands-on assistance, and supervision. Such assistance is provided to an individual in performing ADLs and IADLs based on the individual's person-directed plan (PDP).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

· ADLs are basic personal everyday activities, including tasks such as eating, toileting, grooming, dressing, bathing, and transferring.

· IADLs are activities related to living independently in the community, including meal planning and preparation; managing finances; shopping for food, clothing, and other essential items; performing essential household chores; communicating by phone or other media; traveling around and participating in the community.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: N/A

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or Equivalent such as GED (preferred). Must be 18 years of age or older. One year experience working with people with disabilities. (Preferred) Must have be a cohesive part of the team building skills in order to effectively work with others to provide quality services. Must exhibit good relationship building skills with consumers and their families.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents in English.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: TX driver’s license, liability insurance, and dependable transportation

Must have good health in order to maintain an acceptable attendance record as established by the agency. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand. The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee could be asked to assist in lifting a consumer to transport in and out of their wheelchair, bed, bath, etc. occasionally lift equipment such as wheelchairs, etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
