What’s a Direct Care Assistant?
Direct Care Assistants (DCAs) are employees aged 16 and 17 years old who do similar work as Direct Care Professionals, but with some work restrictions required by law. Restrictions include no overnight work between the hours of 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., no driving while on duty, and other limitations relating to medical equipment and treatments. Direct Care Assistants assist ACR residents with daily living including personal and health care needs, meals, and recreational and leisure activities.
No prior experience is necessary, as paid training is provided to ensure they are well-prepared for the role. Additionally, there is optional training available for medication administration, which requires approval and experience working as a direct care assistant at ACR Homes.
