Assistant and Special Assistant Attorneys General represent the people of Rhode Island in civil and criminal matters before trial courts, appellate courts, and the supreme courts of Rhode Island and the United States. The Office is unique among attorneys general offices across the country. Out of fifty states, only two other offices share the same broad criminal mission. The Office’s attorneys prosecute complex and violent crimes but also functionally serve as one of the nation’s largest district attorney’s offices, prosecuting all felonies throughout the state.
The Rhode Island Office of the Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation is seeking a full-time Cold Case Investigation Assistant contractor (CCIA).
Responsibilities:
- Manage the reporting requirements set-forth by the project’s grant manager
- Act as the RIAG’s Cold Case Liaison with the RI Department of Health’s Forensic Laboratory
- Support the Project Manager of the “Closure Project” with data collection and reporting as needed for USDOJ grant reporting purposes
- Promptly complete all required reports as needed following the proper procedures and policies associated with the report request
- Receive and fulfill requests from the RIAG Cold Case Unit Team
- Track all RIAG requests made to the RIDOH Forensic Laboratory
- Conduct cold case file searches
- Locate evidence at RIDOH or an off-site storage facility, following the proper procedures and policies
- Attend a weekly Cold Case Meeting at the RIAG-BCI Office and other meetings as required
- Other tasks as they relate to Cold Case Investigations
Qualifications:
- 3-5 years of experience working in the Criminal Justice field or a related field
- A college degree is required, preferably in forensic science, human sciences, data science, criminal justice, law, sociology, physiology, or related studies.
- Critical thinking skills are required
- Working knowledge of laboratory procedures and policies is a plus, but not required, training will be provided
- Working knowledge of forensics/criminal justice systems/law is preferred
- Excellent written communication skills and time management skills required
- Proficiency with computers and Microsoft 365, including Outlook and Teams and ability to learn new software as needed
- The ability to attend meetings off-site during the day is required, therefore, reliable transformation
- The ability to work nights and weekends as needed with proper notice is required
Job Types: Full-time, Contract
Pay: $30.00 - $32.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35 per week
