Position Title: Auto Mechanic
Department: Maintenance
Reports To: Foreman
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
SUMMARY:
Coordinates activities to ensure that District vehicles and equipment are properly maintained.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assures adequate maintenance and repair records are maintained for District vehicles and equipment.
- Recommends major equipment and vehicle replacements.
- Maintains the ability to diagnose, repair, rebuild and make necessary adjustments on all vehicle systems and equipment.
- Maintains a thorough knowledge and ability to repair components on all systems, including the ability to operate shop equipment including computer diagnostics.
- Performs trouble shooting and related repairs on District vehicles.
- Orders parts and stocks all fluids. Properly disposed of used fluids.
- May be required to drive a company vehicle to perform certain job duties to any location within the District.
- Ability to schedule all work with the best time management possible.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Must be at least 18 years old. High School Diploma or GED preferred. Two years automobile repair and maintenance experience. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must be able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and a South Carolina School Bus Driver Certificate.
Must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works indoors and outdoors. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. Frequently the employee will work alone and occasionally will work irregular or extended hours. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally will work in a loud area.
