Job Overview:
The Construction Accountant is responsible for managing the financial aspects of construction projects, including tracking project cost, preparing budgets, analyzing expenses, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards, all while monitoring project profitability and identifying potential financial risk.
Responsibilities:
- Financial Management: Maintain accurate general ledger accounts related to construction projects while monitoring project budgets, ensuring accuracy and adherence to financial goals. Reconcile project accounts, ensuring proper documentation for all expenditures. Analyze financial data to identify trends, potential issues, and areas for cost optimization.
- Accounts Payable & Receivable: Process timely invoices and payments related to construction projects, track subcontractor and vendor payments to maintain accurate records, and ensure timely billing/collection of client payments.
- Job Costing & Analysis: Develop and maintain project budgets, forecast future costs, and monitor variances against the budget to provide recommendations for cost control. Accurately track all costs associated with individual construction projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and overhead expenses to provide future insights on future projects. Monitor construction contracts, change orders, and subcontracts to understand financial obligations and potential risks. Assist project managers in understanding financial data and performance.
- Compliance & Reporting: Ensure adherence to all applicable local, state, and federal tax regulations within the construction industry. Manage lien waivers, change orders, and project documentation. Assist with audits and provide necessary documentation to auditors. Stay updated on industry regulations and standards. Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and prevent financial irregularities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- 1-3 years of accounting experience preferably in the construction industry
- Experience with construction accounting software
- Strong knowledge of job costing and percentage-of-completion accounting
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Familiarity with AIA (American Institute of Architects) billing process
- Knowledge of lien waivers and prevailing wage reporting
- Effective communication and customer service skills
Pay:
$45k Dependent on Experience
