Job Summary:
The Accountant II is responsible for accurate and timely preparation of various reconciliations and required journal entries, participation in the month-end close process, monthly investment/bond accounting, bonus calculations, and maintaining fixed assets and prepaids.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
• Prepare journal entries, conduct variance analysis, and assist with month-end close.
• Calculate, record journal entries, and reconcile the monthly investment/bond portfolio.
• Assist with monthly financial reports provided to the bank’s Board of Directors.
• Maintain prepaids and fixed assets in BankTEL.
• Monitor Bank deposit accounts and resolve any issues.
• Assist with monitoring the federal and correspondent banks’ funds positions.
• Perform daily and monthly analysis and reconciliation of general ledger accounts and work with bank staff to identify exceptions and methods of correction.
• Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual bonus calculations.
• Assist with the annual financial audit of the bank and holding company.
• Assist Controller and other management with projects as assigned.
• Serve as backup to Accountant I.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding all Bank financials and employment information.
- Proven accuracy and timeliness with workpapers and financial statements.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to adjust to high volume periods.
- Ability to function effectively both independently and within a team environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Education/Experience/Licenses/Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.
- 3 years of accounting experience required.
- 2 years of experience in corporate finance and/or financial accounting required.
- Banking experience preferred.
