Assistant Controller

Job Summary:

The Assistant Controller plays a key role in supporting the organization’s financial operations by participating in the month-end close process, preparing and reviewing reconciliations and journal entries, and ensuring accurate financial reporting. This position also involves managing fixed assets and prepaids, calculating bonuses, and assisting with both internal and external audits. The Assistant Controller collaborates with various departments and stakeholders to maintain efficient and compliant financial practices. 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Compliance and Audit Support: 

• Assist with internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and analysis. 

• Support regulatory filings relevant to the banking industry including, but not limited to, Reports of Condition and Income, FR Y-9, FR Y-6, and Collateral Submissions. 

• Prepare and update departmental procedures for all key functions to ensure compliance. 

Month-End Close and Financial Reporting: 

• Prepare, review, and approve general ledger account entries and month-end reconciliations. 

• Gather financial data and prepare financial reports for month-end and ad hoc projects. 

• Input and maintain accurate general ledger entries. 

• Prepare and submit board reports with necessary financial information. 

Fixed Assets and Prepaids Management: 

• Review prepaids and fixed assets in BankTEL and reconcile them with the general ledger. 

• Ensure proper accounting treatment and compliance for fixed assets and prepaids. 

Reconciliations and Analysis: 

• Monitor and maintain the investment portfolio. 

• Perform daily and monthly analyses and reconciliations of general ledger accounts. 

• Research and resolve discrepancies, including issues with accounts payable and discrepancies with vendors. 

• Address bank account and general ledger issues, identifying exceptions and proposing corrective measures. 

Bonus Calculations: 

• Prepare and calculate mortgage commissions and submit for approval. 

• Ensure timely and accurate bonus calculations. 

Cross-Functional Support: 

• Serve as a backup for Accountant I, II, and III roles as needed. 

• Collaborate with the Controller and other management on special projects and initiatives 

Qualifications

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding all Bank financials and employment information. 
• Proven accuracy with numbers. 
• Excellent attention to detail. 
• Ability to adjust to high volume periods. 
• Ability to function effectively both independently and within a team environment. 
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
• General knowledge of payroll laws and regulations. 

Education/Experience/Licenses/Certifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required. 
• 5 years of Banking experience required.

Salary : $65,000 - $85,000
