The Machine Operator performs activities related to the coating of pipe and prepares pipe for shipment by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following: (Other duties may be assigned, including but not limited to cross training and housekeeping. Responsibilities also include attention to safety according to all safety rules.)
- Coordinates priorities for specific customer orders with Team Leader.
- Confers with department Team Leader to determine progress of work and to provide information on changes in processing methods received from production control or engineering departments.
- Maintains blasting and coating machinery by performing preventive maintenance, and reports repair or extensive maintenance requirements to Team Leader.
- Positions pipe for blasting and operates blasting control console to perform blasting operations per drawings and specifications.
- Reads customer specification and drawings to determine type of coating, position of holdbacks and other specifications for setting up pipe for coating operations.
- Safely and accurately install holdbacks and masks on pipe.
- Securely welds and removes push tabs and grinds weld flush with pipe.
- Performs quality checks on pipe to identify any areas of repair; records data and submits appropriately.
- Applies coating, per customer specifications by operating machinery and monitoring application of coating.
- Certified to perform required repairs to cement lining and coated pipe.
- Removes holdbacks and bags from pipe.
- Completes required data collection and paperwork.
- Stencils/labels pipe with appropriate information
- Performs other tasks as instructed by supervision.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be physically able to perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Must be able to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Must be able to speak effectively with supervisors and other employees.
- Must be able to calculate add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Must be able to compute ratio and percent and to interpret bar graphs.
- Must be able to read and interpret linear measurements using tape measures and pi tapes, micrometer.
- Must be able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Must be able to read, interpret, and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Must be able to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Must be able to operate computer-controlled equipment, including reading and interpreting console indicators and gauges.
- Must be able to read, write, and effectively communicate in English.
- Must be able to read, understand, and interpret tape measure, pi tape, micrometer, drawings, specification boundary, and digital readouts.
- Must be willing to rotate to different positions an departments in the manufacturing process as requested by leader.
PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS
- Painting or industrial coating experience preferred.
- Welding experience preferred.

- The employee is regularly required to stand; walk & stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- The employee is occasionally required to sit; reach with hands & arms & climb or balance.
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
