What are the responsibilities and job description for the Aerospace Systems Engineer position at Analytical Mechanics Associates, Inc.?
Job Description:
Are you an Aerospace Engineer? Are you interested in Nuclear Propulsion work for NASA? This could be the position for you! Analytical Mechanics Associates, Inc., (AMA) is looking to hire an Engineer to support the Advanced Projects group at AMA’s Denver, CO office.
Job Description:
AMA is currently accepting applications for a motivated Jr. Engineer to support various multi-disciplinary engineering tasks related to spacecraft, space mission design, and software development with a team of engineers at the AMA Denver, CO. The selected applicant will work independently on mission modeling and trajectory design for advanced propulsion concepts. The engineer must be able to synthesize their own work with the work of others on the mission modeling team to develop a product for a customer who is interested in understanding mission trade spaces. In addition to mission modeling work, the applicant can expect to work on a wide range of tasks, which may include requirements development, high level trade studies, spacecraft design, system sizing, physics-based modeling and simulation including heat transfer/thermodynamic systems and software optimization. Given the wide range of potential analysis activities, the ability to multi-task between several, unrelated tasks/projects is desired. AMA is seeking applicants with entrepreneurial spirit who are organized and willing to accept responsibility.
Responsibilities:
The successful applicant will assist AMA’s mission modeling team with performing analyses on a range of potential future missions:
Creating relevant models in python/MATLAB.
Creating trajectories in Copernicus.
Processing results and developing reports/slide decks to present findings to NASA and related agency stakeholders.
The successful applicant will also assist AMA’s engineering team with performing analyses on a range of space systems subjects, which may include:
Performing literature reviews.
Systems engineering tasks such as requirements development and trade studies.
Spacecraft system design, ranging from entire spacecraft MEL to engineering analysis of specific systems.
Technical tasks such as heat transfer and thermodynamic analysis, mass modeling, or software development/analysis related to mission or spacecraft design
Leadership opportunities such as organizing engineering sprints.
Technical writing and documentation of projects and engineering processes.
Requirements:
Experience with Spacecraft system design, trajectory/mission design and multi-disciplinary engineering models is required.
Completion of an undergraduate degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
Experience or exposure to mission modeling activities.
Technical writing experience with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to a diverse team.
Individual with self-starter attitude and strong organizational skills.
The work is ITAR controlled - therefore, only US citizens or US permanent residents can be considered.
Desired Qualifications:
Not all desired qualifications are necessary or expected from applicants. Tasks will be assigned based on applicant’s interest, niche skills, and strengths.
Completion of an advanced degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
Project experience working with interdisciplinary teams on complex space systems.
Experience with using MATLAB, Simulink or Python for performing engineering analyses.
Experience with trajectory modeling tools, especially Copernicus.
Good project experience with significant technical contribution directly relevant to the technical tasks listed above.
Published proposal, research/professional scientific article, paper, or conference presentation.
Experience using GIT, numerical methods, and software optimization techniques.
Previous exposure to nuclear thermal propulsion (NTP), nuclear electric propulsion (NEP), or fission surface power (FSP).
