Qualifications
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal, written, presentations and meetings.
- Proven track record and experience with Microsoft SQL database architecture and administration including: installation, configuration, maintenance, database tuning, and backups.
- Familiarity with iSeries DB2, Oracle, and MySQL databases.
- Knowledge of .NET environment is necessary.
- Candidate must possess a broad range of mature competencies – creativity, strategic thinking, initiative, team player, etc.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.
- Industry standard skills in data base management should include such items as UDL, DTS, OLAP, etc. as well as exposure to third part replication and management tools for monitoring, replication and database optimizations.
- High availability and disaster recovery data base planning skills considered a plus.
- Strong planning and execution skills.
- Storage and Virtualization knowledge beneficial.
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or Information Technology or related field required, or equivalent experience.
- Certification in several database disciplines
- 5 years’ experience in database administration and/or systems technical operations.
- 5 years’ experience in the cable, telecom, or security industry
- Strong ability to build consensus; ability to influence others
- Experience working both independently and in a team oriented collaborative environment
- Exposure to multiple, diverse technologies and processing environments.
- Provides day to day administration of databases, which includes monitoring and tuning, SQL optimization, backup and recovery, space management and capacity planning, importing/exporting data, resolving SQL errors and failures, auditing activities, and resource utilization.
- Provide technical assistance to development teams, as appropriate. Solve issues, research technologies, and help develop strategies to improve information management processes.
- Design and maintain replicated data integrity in a complex network environment.
- Work with infrastructure and development teams to build and support database processes for internal and external applications.
- Work with vendors and remote support teams to increase database availability and improve data trend analysis efforts.
- Adopt and implement industry best practices for database management.
- Secure and protect valuable data from inappropriate access or data loss.
- Perform cost/benefit analyses for proposed systems to aid management in making implementation decisions.
