Artists Circle Fine Art, is seeking a part time & full time Art Installer ($25 - $30 per hour). This position offering will be as a 1099 independent contractor, with an opportunity to convert to a full-time, direct-hire role.

On occasion, we may ask you to come into the office earlier, stay later, or work on weekends. This position requires traveling to various Client and Artist locations in the DMV. An Art Handler is responsible for the secure handling, receiving, condition reporting, preparing, packing, transporting, deinstallation, installation, and storage of artworks. The successful candidate understands that the safety and security of artworks and team members is vital to both the individual and company success. Art Handlers must have their own Vehicle, Valid driver’s license, must pass background check and maintain clean record throughout employment.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Art handling a variety of artworks (2-D & 3-D): sculptures, paintings, mirrors, photographs, to and from vehicles, docks, warehouses, residential homes, and corporate small and large scale installations in a safe and efficient manner
  • Crate handling, packing, and unpacking
  • Installation and de-installations of artworks.
  • Identifying proper installation and hanging hardware.
  • Add hardware to artwork
  • Estimate the proper quantity of materials & time required for an installation project.
  • Condition report and inventory artworks. Inspect artwork prior to handling to ensure proper handling.
  • Fabricate and install pedestals, cleats as needed.
  • Ensure all tools, materials, tool bags, and equipment are stocked for each day’s work and
  • Maintain all required paperwork i.e. shipment logs, receipts and expenses
  • Maintain and service company vehicles to be readied at all times for dispatch.
  • Maintain an organized, clean tool kit and workspace at the office and on job sites.
  • Transport artworks and objects safely, and demonstrate professionalism when handling artwork.
  • Use bracing, padding, or strapping to prevent shifting or damage to Artworks being transported
  • Use carts to transport works (i.e., object carts, painting carts, A-frame carts, flatbed carts)
  • Visit job sites to gather data needed to complete installation
  • Other related duties as assigned or as the situation requires

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in handling artwork in a museum, gallery, artist studio, or private collection, mechanical/construction field.
  • Experience in installation of a wide range of artwork types and hanging systems in residential and commercial techniques.
  • Forklift & Mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs) certification is preferred, but willing to train the right person.

REQUIRED ABILITIES & SKILLS

  • Self-motivated, reliable, and focused.
  • Have good hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity, and spatial reasoning
  • Ability to listen to, understand, follow directions, and plan ahead.
  • Communicate clearly
  • Must have basic math skills to properly measure, mark, or record openings or distances
  • Must be able to properly and safely use tools & equipment, including hammers, levels, drills, screwdrivers, sockets, pliers, wrenches, box cutters, putty knives; ladder, lifts, such as fork/scissor/personnel lifts and material lifts
  • Must be able to perform physical tasks, including bending, kneeling, pulling, pushing, walking, standing for long periods of time, and lifting 50 pounds or more.
  • Must observe and perform operational and personnel policies while conducting company business
  • Valid driver’s license & clean driving record (Must pass background check & maintain clean record throughout employment)

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Contract

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour

Expected hours: 24 – 40 per week
