About the role
The Ground Handling Duty Manager oversees and ensures efficient and safe ground handling operations at an airport. This role focuses on managing ramp services, baggage handling, aircraft marshaling, and turnaround coordination while maintaining compliance with safety, security, and service standards. The Duty Manager acts as a leader, problem solver, and key liaison between airport operations teams, airline representatives, and third-party service providers.
What you’ll do
Operational Management:
- Oversee daily below-the-wing operations, including cabin services, ramp services, baggage handling, aircraft servicing, and turnaround processes.
- Ensure all ground handling activities meet safety, regulatory, and performance standards.
- Monitor and coordinate aircraft movements, ground equipment, and staff to ensure on-time performance.
- Maintain efficient processes for baggage loading/unloading, cargo handling, and aircraft refueling.
- Supervise and guide ramp supervisors and ground handling teams to achieve operational excellence.
- Conduct regular team briefings to communicate operational updates, safety protocols, and performance goals.
- Mentor and develop team members, promoting a culture of accountability and professionalism.
Safety & Compliance:
- Enforce adherence to safety protocols, industry regulations, and airport/airline policies.
- Investigate and report safety incidents, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
- Lead the team during irregular operations or emergencies, ensuring swift and effective responses.
Performance Monitoring & Reporting:
- Track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as on-time performance, baggage handling accuracy, and turnaround times.
- Analyze operational data to identify areas for improvement and develop action plans.
- Prepare and present reports to senior management on operational performance and challenges.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Act as the primary point of contact for airlines, airport authorities, and third-party vendors regarding below-the-wing operations.
- Coordinate with above-the-wing teams to ensure seamless customer experiences.
- Resolve operational issues promptly to minimize delays and maintain high service standards.
What we are looking
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in aviation management, logistics, or a related field (preferred).
- Must speak Spanish
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in airport ground handling, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Certification in ground handling or airport operations is a plus, not required (e.g., IATA, ACI).
Technical Skills:
- Comprehensive knowledge of ground handling procedures, equipment, and safety regulations.
- Familiarity with airline and airport operations systems, including baggage and ramp management processes
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively liaise with stakeholders.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make critical decisions under pressure.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
