The school librarian is responsible for the overall operation of the school library, providing access to books, digital resources, and educational materials. Key Responsibilities:
1. Library Management and Organization:
- Catalog and classify library materials (books, multimedia, digital resources) using appropriate library management software.
- Maintain and organize physical and digital collections to ensure resources are easily accessible.
- Manage circulation of library materials, including check-out and return systems.
- Oversee library inventory, and assess and replace outdated or damaged materials.
2. Instruction and Information Literacy:
- Teach students how to use the library effectively, including how to find information, use library catalogs, and navigate online resources.
- Plan and deliver lessons on information literacy, research skills, and digital citizenship.
- Collaborate with teachers to integrate library resources into the curriculum and support project-based learning.
- Provide instruction on the use of technology and media, including online databases, e-books, and other digital tools.
3. Student Support and Engagement:
- Encourage and promote a love of reading through book recommendations, storytelling, and library events such as reading challenges and author visits.
- Support students with research projects, helping them to locate credible sources and refine research skills.
- Create engaging displays, bulletin boards, and other promotional materials to highlight books, authors, and library events.
- Work with students on independent reading goals and personalized book recommendations.
4. Technology Integration:
