BarnAllen Technologies, Inc. has an immediate opening for a full-time Library Technician to support our collection maintenance contract work with the National Library of Medicine in Bethesda, MD. The Library Technician works on a collaborative team and performs tasks such as item retrieval, shifting, shelving, inventory, and relocate fragile
Responsibilities:
- Shift collection materials
- Assist patrons with locating and accessing library materials

Provide basic reference services to library users
- Sort and shelve library materials
- Shelf read the collection to maintain the correct shelf order
- Relocate fragile materials
- Conduct data collection and research for various library projects

Assist with interlibrary loan requests and document delivery services

Manage and maintain the integrated library systems (ILS) and ensure accurate catologing of materials
- Identify library materials needing repair
- Receive, sort mail, and unpack shipments of new materials
- Distribute materials to processing locations
- Assist with the organization and maintenance of library collections
Qualifications:
- Associate's Degree; Bachelor Degree preferred
- One or more years of recent experience working in a library performing the duties as described above

Experience with using a library services platform to update holdings and item records, preferably Alma and willingness to learn
- Experience locating, retrieving, and shelving library materials by call number
- Ability to lift and carry library materials weighing up to 50 lbs

Ability to work in physically demanding conditions, such as standing, stooping, bending, or walking for extended periods of time, climbing ladders, or pushing carts laden with supplies or library materials
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Ability to conduct research using various resources, both print and electronic
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Ability to organize and prioritize workloads and meet deadline
- Careful attention to detail and ability to take direction from staff members
- Excellent oral and written professional communication skills in English

- U.S. Citizenship
Please note that this position requires computer skills and the ability to troubleshoot software issues. Experience with integrated library systems (ILS) is preferred, but we are willing to provide training for the right candidate.
This position is performed 100% onsite and is an active position working on multiple floors in the Library.
