What are the responsibilities and job description for the Animal Shelter Kennel Technician position at Barnwell County Government?
Under the general supervision of the Animal Shelter Director, the Shelter Kennel Technician performs work related to the welfare of dogs and cats and their environment at the Barnwell County Animal Shelter. The Shelter Kennel Technician assists the Animal Shelter Director and Medical Manager in the daily animal welfare tasks through sustenance maintenance and humane environment management.
- All behaviors comply with the Policy and Procedures of the Barnwell County Animal Shelter (BCAS) and the Barnwell County Personnel Policy Manual.
- Provide daily care to all animals, including providing clean, sufficient food and water on a regular daily schedule, which may also include giving provided medications mixed with their food, walking dogs, and allowing dogs to exercise in the play yards under supervision.
- Clean kennels daily according to policy and procedures of the BCAS. Includes scooping feces, cleaning play yards, disinfecting dog and cat kennels and crates, washing food and water bowls, and changing cat litter.
- Assist Medication Manager with medical and administrative procedures as requested. MUST be able to physically handle large and small dogs and cats. This includes picking up dogs to move them, moving cats from one location to another, and walking large dogs on a leash.
- Conduct yourself in accordance with Barnwell County Personnel Policy and in a way that promotes positive experiences and return customers with the community, shelter partners, social media, volunteers, Law Enforcement, Animal Control Officers, Board Members, and other employees.
- Report all medical and behavioral concerns to Medical Manager daily.
- Report broken or damaged equipment or tools to Shelter Director.
- Keep the environment of the animals: neat, tidy, healthy, humane, and loving.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Shelter Director.
