What are the responsibilities and job description for the Financial Counselor position at Barstow Community?
Works with health insurance providers to determine coverage and benefit limits. Advises patients of procedure costs and alternative sources of funding. May arrange for referrals or second opinions. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision; typically reports to a supervisor or manager. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is expected. High school diploma or equivalent with at least 1 year of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
Education: High School Diploma, or GED
Experience: 2 years experience as Financial Counselor in Hospital Setting required. Hospital registration experience and/or scheduling preferred. Computer keyboard experience. Type 35 WPM. Bilingual preferred. Knowledge of various health insurance including government, HMO's and PPO's. Familiar and knowledgeable in the use of basic office equipment. For precertification/authorization, must have Excel and Microsoft Word experience. Must be organized and have the ability to work in a high activity busy environment.
wage scale: 21.00 - 25.93 per hour
