Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) Job Description
Position Summary :
A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) is a highly trained professional who applies principles of behavior analysis to develop, implement, and oversee programs that support individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), developmental disabilities, and other behavioral or psychological challenges. BCBAs work with individuals, families, schools, and organizations to assess behaviors, design interventions, and provide ongoing support to improve quality of life and increase functional skills.
Key Responsibilities :
Behavioral Assessment and Analysis :
Conduct comprehensive functional behavior assessments (FBAs) to identify the antecedents, behaviors, and consequences (the ABCs of behavior).
- Analyze data from direct observations, interviews, and testing to understand the function of problem behaviors.
- Use evidence-based tools and methods to assess and measure the severity of behavioral issues, skill deficits, and progress toward treatment goals.
Program Development :
Design individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs) based on the results of the behavioral assessment.
Implementation and Training :
Provide training and support to direct care staff, teachers, and family members on how to implement behavioral interventions consistently and effectively.
Data Collection and Monitoring :
Collect and analyze data on student or client progress, ensuring that behavior plans are having the intended effects.
Family and Client Support :
Provide regular feedback to families, caregivers, and other stakeholders regarding the progress of behavioral interventions.
Collaboration with Other Professionals :
Collaborate with other professionals such as teachers, school psychologists, speech and language pathologists, and occupational therapists to ensure holistic care and support.
Ethical and Professional Standards :
Adhere to the ethical guidelines established by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) and maintain professional integrity.
Supervision and Case Management :
Supervise and provide feedback to less experienced staff, ensuring they are following behavior intervention plans correctly.
Qualifications : Education :
Master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Psychology, Education, or a closely related field.
Certification :
Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) is required.
Experience :
Previous experience working with individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), developmental disabilities, or other behavioral concerns.
Skills :
Strong knowledge of behavior analysis principles, ABA techniques, and data collection methods.
