The School of Communication, Arts and Social Sciences at Benedict College invites applications for a Director of Bands to begin on June 1, 2025.
The Director of Bands provides artistic, strategic, and administrative leadership for the wind ensemble, jazz band, pep band, and the Marching Tiger Band of Distinction. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the Director of Bands will also provide leadership for coordination of the support services, recruitment, and retention of band students of all majors.
The successful candidate will be an individual with professional ethics, strong interpersonal skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills. The Director of Bands must have an earned master’s in music and is expected to work collaboratively with colleagues both within and outside the program to successfully teach and provide quality service to the School, College, and community.

- Cultivate a positive, creative vision for sustained improvement and expansion of the band program
- Develop a strategic plan for the forward momentum of the band program that is attractive to prospective students
- Foster collaborations both within and outside of the institution
- Demonstrate leadership in the identification of innovative solutions for the expansion of the band program
- Coordinate with the dean on event scheduling and budget management of the band program
- Supervise an assistant director, band coordinator, and auxiliary staff
- Conduct, rehearse and administrate all band groups
