The Procurement Manager plans, develops, and manages all activities related to the acquisition of raw materials and packaging materials. Responsibilities include creating an assurance of supply of materials while managing to inventory targets across all company manufacturing locations. The Procurement Manager leads a purchasing team to buy the appropriate quantities of materials to be ready for production as required and manages the entire process from developing forecasts for suppliers to ordering and tracking deliveries through receipt and quality release. This position drives sustainable supply chain practices through effective supplier management, contract compliance, and materials procurement, focused on reducing costs, improving quality, and delivering optimal service for customers. The Procurement Manager also develops and implements purchasing strategies, policies, procedures, and guidelines, and establishes buying limits.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Hire, coach, develop, and mentor the procurement team.
- Develop and implement company purchasing policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Determine materials requiring multi-sourcing, find and evaluate new suppliers, ensure contract compliance, and evaluate performance of suppliers.
- Negotiate availability and delivery schedules. Maintain supplier relationships to control costs and satisfy company requirements.
- Develop and maintain appropriate Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) purchasing inputs including lead-times, order quantities, and safety stocks.
- Manage material supplies to target via ensuring accuracy in quantities and delivery requirements with long-term material forecasts, blanket orders, and releases provided to suppliers.
- Ensure materials arrive in the required quantities and are ready for use by production through ongoing meetings with suppliers, reviewing open orders, and tracking orders from placement through confirmation, supplier production, shipment, receipt, and quality release.
- Lead and support projects and initiatives, as assigned.
- Travel to vendor and SCN BestCo sites with some international travel (Up to 30%).
People Leader Responsibilities
The position carries out People Leader Responsibilities in accordance with the Company’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include:
- Direct supervision of 1-5 employees to include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding, and administering corrective actions; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Provide 360-degree feedback, as requested, for leaders, peers, and subordinate team members.
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, procurement, food science, engineering, or related field, or commensurate combination of education and work experience.
- 6 years’ professional manufacturing procurement and supply chain management experience.
- 3 years’ progressive management/leadership experience.
- Proven leadership and people management success, specifically in building and developing winning teams, managing change, and achieving professional development goals.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSAs):
- Thorough understanding of procurement concepts, tools, metrics, and best practices.
- Advanced skills with ERP systems and Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Strong communication, negotiation, organization, and project management skills.
- Ability to perform statistical analysis, create actionable items, and effectively present information to top management and public groups.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with internal staff and management. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Must be able to demonstrate practical problem solving and trouble shooting skills. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s in business administration (MBA) or equivalent.
- Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) and/or Institute for Supply Management (ISM) Membership.
- General knowledge of Lean Manufacturing concepts.
- Continuous improvement experience.
- Experience working in a cGMP environment.
