Sports Reporter

Overview
Bi-Stone Publishing is seeking an energetic sports reporter to cover the high school beat of the Teague Lions and Fairfield Eagles, a pair of 3A athletic programs in East Texas. This candidate will contribute game coverage and feature stories to two of our weekly newspapers, The Teague Chronicle and Fairfield Recorder.

Responsibilities

• Establish relationships with coaches and athletic directors.
• Develop sources that can send timely statistical information to the newsroom.
• Create human interest stories and features that go beyond local game coverage.
• Must feel comfortable interviewing various athletes and coaches.
• Must attend regular season home games and travel to road playoff sites when needed.
• Sports knowledge must include, but is not limited to, football, baseball, basketball, volleyball, track and field, cross country, and soccer.
• Edit content for clarity, grammar, style, and factual accuracy before publication.
• Fact-check all information to ensure reliability and credibility of the stories.
• Capture high-quality photographs and videos to accompany written pieces when necessary.
• Collaborate with editors and other team members to develop story ideas and refine content.
• Stay updated on current events and trends to identify potential stories of interest.

Skills

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Proficient in copywriting with the ability to craft engaging narratives.
• Strong fact-checking skills to ensure accuracy in reporting.
• Experience in photography and videography is a plus.
• Ability to edit content effectively for clarity and style consistency.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively.
