Overview
Under the direction of the Chief People Officer, the Chief of Staff’s primary responsibility is to assist the Chief People Officer in directing the work of the City of Boston’s People Operations Cabinet. The Chief of Staff will advance the goals of the People Operations Cabinet and ensure People Operations, Human Resources, Labor Relations, and the Registry are functioning smoothly. As a key leadership role in the City’s People Operations Cabinet, the Chief of Staff will work to create a City of Boston that is the gold standard of municipal people operations, and ensure that the City of Boston is an employer of choice.
Responsibilities
- Assists with overseeing the City of Boston’s People Operations Cabinet, including the Office of Human Resources (OHR), the Office of Labor Relations (OLR), and the Registry.
- Manages a portfolio of high priority, cabinet wide special projects and initiatives and provides direct management of associated project managers and directors.
- Supports department heads and department HR on high priority projects, employee relations matters, in navigating roadblocks, and in other key areas by providing strategic advice.
- Acts as liaison to the Mayor's Office on all key personnel-related tasks.
- Provides executive oversight of major Cabinet initiatives, working with a variety of teams and leadership to align internal and external resources to ensure successful project completion.
- Advises on and contributes to policy, strategic planning and budget development, and human resources issues for the Office of People Operations.
- Coordinates and manages cross-departmental issues and projects, including communications and the development of policies and procedures.
- Represents the Chief People Officer and department(s) in various settings, as required.
- Assists or may be assigned to plan, develop, implement, direct and evaluate continuing improvement, re-organization, and cost containment efforts for delivery of City services.
- Manages key operational objectives to ensure completion which may include but is not limited to approvals of personnel requisitions and operationalizing collective bargaining agreements or HR policy changes.
- Performs related work as required.
