The Hi-Desert Star, a weekly newspaper in Southern California, has an immediate opening for an experienced reporter who is self-motivated. The reporter must be willing to spend time outside the office and available for day/night and/or weekend work as needed for proper coverage of local news, meetings and events.
Hi-Desert Publishing Company is a multimedia company based in Yucca Valley, California, a desert community nestled between Joshua Tree National Park and Palm Springs. Yucca Valley is a small town with a small-town feel. Candidates must like small town life in the mountains and/or desert, with beautiful scenery and recreation, four seasons and snow in the winter.
The position is a full-time job that requires a variety of journalism skills from reporting on government affairs and writing compelling features on local issues to covering sports, special events and breaking news. Photography skills, multi-media and social media experience is a plus. The candidate must have strong grammar skills and be AP-Style proficient.
Publications at this location include the Hi-Desert Star, The Desert Trail, Observation Post. www.hidesertstar.com and several special sections.
